My Sister, The Serial Killer – Oyinkan Braithwaite

Trigger warning for violence, domestic abuse.

Blurb:
When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This’ll be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s dispatched in, quote, self-defence and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first. Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s long been in love with him, and isn’t prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other…

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book, it was short but so much happened in it. Korede loves her sister Ayoola, but Ayoola is a serial killer. When Ayoola calls Korede for a third time to help her clean up a mess she has created, Korede is close to telling the police what happened. When Ayoola starts to date a doctor that Korede works with and is in love with, she knows what’s going to happen and tries to stop them from dating.

I really enjoyed this book, it was really interesting to see Korede struggle between doing what’s right and her love for her sister. The struggle becomes more difficult when the doctor Korede is in love with starts to date Ayoola, Korede knows she will be helping Ayoola clean up his murder if she doesn’t intervene.

I really loved the flashbacks to their childhood and seeing how the girls grew up, it was really interesting and gives depth to their characters. It also shows where Ayoola possibly got her temperament from.
