Blurb:
Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him.
When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his true gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.
However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie off some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.
My Thoughts:
I absolutely LOVED this book!
I listened to this as an audiobook and just fell in love with the characters. We follow Yadriel as he fights to be recognised as a real brujo when his family are having difficulty seeing who he really is. But when Yadriels cousin dies and Yadriel tries to summon his ghosts he winds up with the ghost of Julian, the bad boy in town.
As they spend more time together and try to figure out how Julian died Yadriel starts to feel more towards Julian.
As I said, I loved this book, I think it was such a greats story and a really interesting insight into Dia de Muertos, which I really didn’t have any knowledge of. And I have said this before but I love when books include snipets of other languages and this book did have bit of Spanish thoughout which was beautiful!

I think Yadriel’s father had the most character development because he finally accepted Yadriel for who he is and it was such a beautiful moment, however Yadriel and Julian do grow as characters as well. There is one beautiful scene in particular that I really enjoyed when Yads and Jules were driving during the sunset and it was such a beautiful moment!
Sometimes you can tell the ages of the boys because of some of their actions being a little reckless, but I think that’s understandable because they are teenagers and it can be forgiven.
I couldn’t recommend this book enough so please get youself a copy if you can. Here is a link.
You’ve written such a great review. You can tell the book has captured your imagination and sounds like a great book.

This book sounds so entertaining! Mistakes will happen, but I love it when the people involved deal with them in strong ways, and a little character development sweetens my heart.
