My Thoughts:
I have had this book on my shelves for far too long! I’m so glad I finally read it and it was so good!
We follow Jess, her stepson Nick, and her daughter Tanzie. Jess is a cleaner and a barmaid, trying to make ends meet but when Tanzie, an incredible mathematician, gets a great opportunity to participate in a maths exam that might pay out £5,000 if she wins first place, the whole family needs to find a way to get to Aberdeen on no money.
Ed is a CEO, but he is in a lot of trouble, he is being accused of insider trading, so he has fled London. One night as he is travelling to his beach house he comes across Jess and her kids on the side of the road and on an impulse he offers to drive their whole family to Aberdeen.
I really loved this book, I thought the characters were really engaging and I couldn’t guess the ending of the book, I had no idea what was coming, or where it was going.
The relationship between Jess and her kids was so amazing and it was great to see single parenthood represented in a really real way, it showed the difficulties and awkwardnesses of when one of the children is your stepchild.
I really enjoyed how involved Ed was with the kids, even though he had just met them, he was kind and did everything he could do to make them happy.
It was really great to watch the characters grow as much as they did, honestly, I thought this was such a great book, Jojo Moyes has not let me down yet.
