Yes Please – Amy Poehler – Bookrush 14

Blurb:
In Amy Poehler’s highly anticipated memoir, Yes Please, she offers up a big juicy stew of personal stories, funny bits on sex and love and friendship and parenthood and real life advice (some useful, some not so much).

Powered by Amy’s charming and hilarious, biting yet wise voice, Yes Please is a book full of words to live by.

My Thoughts:
I got this book from Passionfuel when I requested a comedy. I really had no idea what Amy Poehler had done apart from that she was in Parks and Recreation which I had never seen, and she had done some SNL sketches, which I had also never seen. So I didn’t know what to expect from this memoir.

What I really enjoyed was that she was under no illusion that she was privaledged, she grew up working class, she’s white and she’s blond. I like that she said that, but that’s not to say that she didn’t work hard to get where she is now and she did pay her dues.

One thing that bothered me a bit was the long tangets she went on while telling a story about her past, but I do understand why it was necessary, it brings everything together in a round about way. And I do like the way she explains things and tells her stories her way.

I listened to this book as an audiobook, and I really loved the way other people would join in and include their parts of the story, there was an amazing relationship between Poehler and everyone who played a part in reading the book. I also loved that she had her parents included in the book, giving their points of view.

I love that she tries to make everything funny. She briefly about her divorce and she was completely honest about how bad she felt, but she learnt and grew from it.

I have started watching Parks and Recreation, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s so funny and so silly! It’s such a perfect show for keeping your mood positive!

  1. My wife is reading this at the moment. Like you, she wasn’t overly aware of Any Poehler, but is really enjoying what she’s reading! You’ve reminded me as well; I need to get back to watching Parks and Recreation.
    Thanks for sharing.
