Nana Vol. 1 – Ai Yazawa

Blurb:
Nana Komatsu is a young woman who’s endured an unending string of boyfriend problems. Moving to Tokyo, she’s hoping to take control of her life and put all those messy misadventures behind her. She’s looking for love and she’s hoping to find it in the big city. Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is cool, confident and focused. She swaggers into town and proceeds to kick down the doors to Tokyo’s underground punk scene. She’s got a dream and won’t give up until she becomes Japan’s No. 1 rock’n’roll superstar. This is the story of two 20-year-old women who share the same name. Even though they come from completely different backgrounds, they somehow meet and become best friends. The world of Nana is a world exploding with sex, music, fashion, gossip and all-night parties.

My Thoughts:
I haven’t read a Manga since I read Death Note years ago which I absolutely loved and Nana is so different but so much fun!

The artwork is so beautiful! What I love about manga is that it’s not just about the story it’s the visuals as well and they have to match up and they do completely in Nana.

I didn’t know what to expect when I first started reading it but I really liked it, Nana Komatsu I found to be a little frustrating because she would fall in love with every boy she met, but that’s all part of her character and makes her really innocent and naive. She is shy and starts the book not really knowing how to talk to boys and see them as possibilities for friends but goes straight to falling in love with them.

On the other hand Nana Osaki is cool and confident. She’s been in a relationship with Ren for a while and sings in a band that’s on the come up.

I’m really interested to see how the two characters will interact and how their stories will cross paths in the next volumes. So I’m off to go get the next few volumes!

You can get a copy of volume on here.

  2. Ah, Nana, I so loved that manga, sad that it never got finished/may never get finished, but still hoping for it to finish despite it being 10 years. 😦 I love how it starts light/fun but then gets more and more serious later on. I hope you enjoy reading the series!

  3. I love manga, especially when the artwork is well done which, with most manga, never fails. Graphic novels is one of my favorite ways to experience a story visually and emotionally. 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. Death Note was a series of manga I actually read all the way through. I read a volume or two here and there of other series, but Death Note I finished. This one sounds lovely!
