#20booksofsummer reading challenge hosted by @746books

Blurb:

Sharing never-before-heard stories ranging from their struggles with depression, eating disorders, and addiction, Karen and Georgia irreverently recount their biggest mistakes and deepest fears, reflecting on the formative life events that shaped them into two of the most followed voices in the podcasting world.

In Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered, Karen and Georgia focus on the importance of self-advocating and valuing personal safety over being ‘nice’ or ‘helpful.’ They delve into their own pasts, true crime stories, and beyond to discuss meaningful cultural and societal issues with fierce empathy and unapologetic frankness.

My Thoughts:

This book is absolutely incredible I honestly think it’s going to be my favourite of the year!

If anyone listens to the podcast My Favourite Murder you will know how funny Karen and Georgia are and how honest they are with their acohol/substance abuse and mental health struggles. This is one of the reasons I feel like I know them, because while I don’t drink anymore or take drugs I have had my fair share of menal health struggles and Karen and Georgia have really helped!

In case you haven’t listened to the podcast Karen and Georgia read out one murder each a week and discuss what happened and what could possibly have happened to make the killers the way they are.

In this book we hear stories from their childhoods and how they met. Their struggles with bad relationships and growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s been so great to learn more about these two amazong women and I am so glad I stumbled across My Faourite Murder.

I wish I had this book earlier this year when my anxiety really started to rear its ugly head and my depression was slowly creeping back.

The thing about mental health is that there is no right answer on how you are feeling and how to get better. It’s an ever changing thing that one will be manageable and the next will be all consuming, what treatment you get entirely depends on the individual and what works best for you.

For me the hardest part was admitting that there was something wrong. I was a master at plastering on a smile an powering through the work day and then on my drive home and at home it would all come crashing in on me and I felt so alone. But I wasn’t, there are so many people who have felt the same and the best thing I did was call the doctor and say ‘I’m having trouble’.

This book isn’t just for people with mental health issues – obviously! It’s for everyone, it’s a guide on how to Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered! A lesson we should all learn. Basically do what you always do just be aware of red flags and have an escape plan!

I love My Favourite Murder, they make me laugh so hard and of course it helps with my true crime addiction! I am a Murderino! We are a community!

So SSDGM! Stay Out of the Forrest and You’re in a Cult Call Your Dad!!

Please support these two incredible women and get the book here.

  1. I’ve heard a lot of hype about this book but I didn’t realise it was about their personal lives and struggles – I thought it was going to be all true murder cases. I’ll have to check it out, thank you for the review!
