I love David Attenborough and to be honest I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love one of his documentaries. His most recent documentary ‘Our Planet’ – which aired on Netflix – nearly made me cry in the second episode!
However, before he started making documentaries, he worked at the BBC and was not infront of the camera! He was a producer and used to travel around the world finding animals and bringing them back to the London Zoo (ZSL), these animals were then infront of the camera instead. Attenborough would, alongside colleagues, film these animals in the wild and bring them back to be further examined.
In this book we travel with Sir David Attenborough (although he wasn’t a Sir at the time I still like to use it) to find giant anteaters, komodo dragons, and armadillos in Guyana, Indonesia and Paraguay respectively.
Attenborough and his team have to stay in remote villages in the middle of rainforests to be able to find these incredible animals, where they aren’t even able to speak the language of the villagers. Everyone one of them have these amazing stories to tell and incredible adventures that I could only ever dream about.
They hand reared a monkey called Charlie and caught a caimen!
The book also details of the extreme measures to ensure the safe passage for the animals to be taken back to London. All of the documentation, the forms which needed filling out and the type of transport required to bring the foreign animals to live their lives in their new home at the ZSL.
The book is witty and charming, if you like animals and Sir David Attenborough then I defintely think you should read this incredible insight into the natural world.

I love David Attenborough too. I love his documentaries. I think the last one I watched though was the one about The Great Barrier Reef in Australia, which was a real eye-opener. I also love to read real life and biography type books. This sounds so interesting, I’ll definitely be adding it to my TBR list. Thank you for sharing such a good review!
